Alexandra Estrada
Teacher/Assistant
I first discovered Ashtanga in Boca Raton, Florida, in 2007, thanks to a chance encounter with a fellow student who was always at the yoga studio before me on Sunday mornings, doing his own practice. One day, I
asked him why he arrived so early; he told me he practiced a style called Ashtanga. He then invited me to show up early the following Sunday so I could try it with him. I did—and from that first full run-through of the primary series, I was hooked. I continued to practice on my own, using a book called Ashtanga Yoga for Women, until moving to Boston in 2008 and finding a shala soon afterward.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of studying under fantastic teachers, but I’ve found my true home at AYA with Todd. I’m deeply grateful for his unwavering commitment to the integrity of the practice, his absolute dedication to his students, and his unique ability to approach it all with humor and lightness while fully honoring the seriousness of what the practice demands of the body and mind.
When I assist, I aim to offer a firm, compassionate touch, supporting students wherever they are in their practice and helping guide them deeper into the postures, always with care and respect for their process.
I’m also a mother to a young child and firmly believe that Ashtanga isn’t just a personal practice—it’s a household one. To me, it remains the most accessible, truly “all-levels” yoga practice there is.
